Elective Courses and Instructors 
ALL OUR COURSES ARE TAUGHT BY NATIONAL CELEBRITIES
Music & Recording Instructor - Kashif – Six-time Grammy nominated songwriter / producer / artist / author and creator of C.S.E.C.
This program is based on the highly acclaimed course created by Kashif and taught at UCLA, Institute of Audio Research, Guitar Center, and Sam Ash Music locations just to name a few. With a hands-on approach, students learn the fundamentals of songwriting, music production, music technology, and music business. Attendees are encouraged and invited to sing, play instruments, record their music, interact with music technology and perform. A select number of the students will perform musical numbers at the graduation ceremonies at the end of the week in each city.
 
 
Sports/Basketball Instructors – TBD
Each student is instructed in basic basketball skills such as dribbling, passing, defense, and shooting. Each of these basic basketball skills coincides with one or more of our Core Values thus providing us with many opportunities to reiterate and reinforce them to our players. Students not only leave our camp as improved athletes but are also armed with tools for successful living taught by our accomplished and caring staff. A basketball tournament occurs at the end of each week in each city.
 
 
Acting Instructor - Dawnn Lewis
Is Best known for her roles on the hit TV shows A Different World, and Hangin’ with Mr. Cooper, Ms. Lewis calls upon her twenty plus years of acting experience to teach this interactive acting class. Basic acting skills such as how to prepare for a role, the art of auditioning, creating characters, and the business of acting round out this fun filled summer session. Core values are integrated into each lesson. During graduation ceremonies the students will perform short plays aimed at showcasing the skills they have acquired during this exciting week of learning.
 
 
Dance Instructor – Wade Robson
Dance has found its way into mainstream America not only as a favorite pastime but also as a realistic vocation for young people. This class offers a variety of styles such as Jazz, Hip Hop, Crunk, Ballet, and Modern dance. Our goal is to increase enthusiasm, plus encourage attendees to explore the full range of performance and employment possibilities in dance. Each week culminates with a choreographed performance by dance students during graduation ceremonies.
 
 
Power Tools For Life (Required)

 

Instructors - Beverly Danields & Vincent Cheatham
This workshop has been taught in numerous high schools and PAL (Police Athletic Leagues) programs in New York State and meets state requirements for training in the arts. Session begins with a warm up consisting of; breathing exercises, techniques to increase attention span, light stretching, and visualization exercises.
 

PHASE I
We start this segment by having each participant introduce themselves and share a personal dream or goal. Theatre games designed to build an atmosphere of trust and cooperation within the group are also integrated. Participants are required to complete a short questionnaire. This questionnaire is used promote a discussion of the First Power Tool – A POSITIVE ATTITUDE. The concept of “Quiet Time”, is introduced. Meditation and positive thinking - techniques designed to help participants learn to control their emotions, realize their self-worth and control their reactions to outside forces complete this first segment.

 
PHASE II
Each participant is required to write one short-term goal and the steps needed to take to accomplish it. This leads to the introduction to the Second Power Tool - DISCIPLINE. Group discussions take place on various strategies and which ones work best to accomplish these short-term goals. We stress “How to build a solid foundation”, including the benefits of networking and resource gathering. Attendees execute theatre games focusing on role-playing with a theme of conflict resolution and mediation. We then introduce student s to techniques to cope with anger. We call this (S.L.A.P.) Stop – Listen – Access – Proceed. Participants then role play improvisations designed to demonstrate practical application and employment of “Power Tools”.
 
PHASE III
Group discussions on self-esteem, peer pressure, relationships, and anger. This is when we introduce the Third Power Tool, CREATIVE PROBLEM SOLVING (in five easy steps.) Introduction to body language and how to work it is the first part of this process. Social conversation and social etiquette tools are introduced through improvisation. Visualization techniques are used to promote self esteem. We also teach how important it is to be focused. Attendees participate in group discussions on the use of power tools in every
day life. They also report on the status of reaching their short-term goals. Participants present their performance piece to invited guests. Participants are required to complete an exit questionnaire – a take home document/tool designed to keep them on track and in tune with what they have learned in during this life-altering week of activity. The participants will present a performance piece at the graduation ceremonies at the end of the week in each city.
